Federal health experts say the pain reliever found in Aleve may be safer on the heart than other popular anti-inflammatory drugs taken by millions of Americans.

They say the ingredient, naproxen, may have a lower risk of heart attack and stroke than the risk posed by rival medications like ibuprofen.

Staff at the Food and Drug Administration want naproxen to be relabeled to emphasize its safety.

If that happens, it could re-shape the market for drugs used to treat headaches, muscle pain and arthritis.
