California Sees Rise in Whooping Cough Cases

There's a rise in the number of whooping cough cases in California.

Dr. Mitchell Kushner says his Southern California practice is seeing a significant increase.

"Part of the problem, rather than just the immunization question, is that children are contagious, they're going to school, and they're spreading the illness," Kushner said.

In Long Beach alone, there have been more than 40 cases since the beginning of the year.  There were only 12 in all of 2013.

Health officials say other cities around California and the nation are seeing whooping cough increases, and they say its important that all age groups get immunized.
