Health officials in Southern California fear the worst after five people have come down with the measles.

Authorities confirmed five cases of measles in Orange County in the last 10 weeks, and are working to contact people who may have had prolonged exposure.

Measles is a potentially severe disease that can cause fever, rash, cough and watery eyes, and spreads easily by air and direct contact with someone infected.

Although the risk of being infected from brief contact with someone with measles is low, people should review their vaccination history and monitor for fever or an unexplained rash.
