There might be a reason so many people fail to keep their New Year's resolutions.
According to a new American Well survey, just 8 percent are successful in maintaining the promises they make on Jan. 1. And this could be because 56 percent simply refuse to tell anyone about their resolutions.
A third of the respondents admit that their resolutions fall by the wayside because they lose their motivation.
However, American Well's Dr. Peter Antall says a support system -- especially for health-related resolutions like losing weight or quitting smoking -- can provide helpful motivational boosts.
So people could be sabotaging their efforts unintentionally, simply by keeping their resolutions to themselves.
