Many People Aren't Getting Shingles Vaccination

A single shingles shot can go along way if you get vaccinated. Problem is, a lot of people aren't.

The number of shingles cases is on the rise in Sacramento and the rest of the country even with the development of a vaccine in 2006.

The virus affects only people who have already had chickenpox or occasionally someone who's gotten a chickenpox vaccination.

Shingles is generally not fatal, but it can be terribly painful and can occur more than once.

The Sacramento Bee's reporting it's now hitting people in most age groups except the very young, not just those over 60.

The reason the number of cases is increasing is not known, but the Centers for Disease Control says even thought the shingles vaccine is widely available, most people don't get it.

One medical expert says the vaccine is expensive and not often fully covered by insurance, even for those over 60.
