Colorectal cancer (commonly called colon cancer) is the third most common cancer in men and women in the United States, and the third leading cause of cancer death.

Although it is one of the most deadly forms of cancer, the death rate from this disease has been dropping thanks to improvements in colon cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.

There are now screening tests that can stop colon cancer before it starts, or catch it early, when treatments are more likely to be successful.
