Placer County Health officials say an infant has died from whooping cough.

The exact age and location have not been disclosed, but the baby was less than six months old.

Doctors say most victims of whooping cough are that age.

Vaccinations for pregnant women can help prevent the spread of the disease.

Infants then need to be vaccinated as soon as possible to help build up an extra barrier.

This is the first whooping cough death in Placer County in several years. It's the second statewide this year.
