Saturday the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, the Sacramento Police Department and other local agencies will take part in a nationwide prescription pill take-back day.
You can drop off your leftover and unwanted prescription medicines at the Sacramento Police Department Headquarters on Freeport Boulevard between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Alan Bass with the DEA says the idea is prevent misuse of leftover prescription medicines, especially by kids.
"The majority of prescription drugs that are being abused are coming directly from our family and our friends -- which includes your medicine cabinet -- so we're trying to prevent that," he said.
They don't want hypodermic needles or injectable medicines, but even cough syrups are acceptable. Over the past six previous take-back events, the DEA and local law enforcement were responsible for disposal of near 14,000 tons of pills.
