A new study has found a correlation between naps and diabetes.

The study suggests that people who take longer naps are a a higher risk for diabetes – stating that nap durations affect the body differently.

The study took a look at 27,000 retired men and women in China, and categorized them into four groups based on length of nap – ranging from zero to more than 60 minutes.

More than 66 percent of the participants, about 18,500 people reported taking afternoon naps. The results showed that those napping more than an hour had a higher risk of pre-diabetes and diabetes when compared with those who don’t nap at all.

While longer nap durations were associated with an increased risk for high blood sugar and diabetes, people who took short naps, of less than 30 minutes, tended to have lower blood-sugar levels compared with those who don’t nap.
