The West Nile Virus has made its way to the Sacramento region for the 2014 season.

The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District has received confirmation that a crow found in South Sacramento was infected with the disease.

In response, the district will increase its mosquito trapping and surveillance in the area to find sources where mosquitoes may be breeding.

In 2013, 15 deaths and 379 human West Nile Virus cases were reported in California.
