SACRAMENTO -- Dr. Neil Culp, a leader in the establishment of Sacramento cancer and hospice programs, lost his battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease last week at the age of 80.

A battlefield physician in Vietnam, Culp later served as Chief of Medicine for Sutter Community Hospitals and was a founding member of the Sacramento Center for Hematology and Medical Oncology.

Married to the late Peggy Bolin for 52 years, Culp once turned down an offer to be President Richard Nixon's personal physician. His daughter, Lisa, is the founder and Executive Director of Sacramento's Women's Empowerment Program.
