RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. -- Sac Metro Fire is fighting a wildland fire in Rancho Cordova off Coloma Boulevard along the American River. 

The fire is burning on the southside of the river, burning in light grasses and trees. 

Helicopters are performing water drops with strong winds blowing from the South West. Thirty firefighters are on scene, along with a full compliment of engines, trucks, tankers and dozers. 

Resources are spread out among the El Manto and Rossmore access points along the river. The fire is burning to east toward the river. 

A fire along the American River scorched about 100 acres yesterday.
