FOOTHILL FARMS, Calif. -- A man is facing murder and arson charges after Thursday night's firebombing of a Foothill Farms apartment building.

Law enforcement officers arrested Charles Hui McKenzie at the scene of the fire in the 5600 block of Hillsdale Boulevard, where he was watching emergency crews work on the blaze.

Authorities are learning more about what may have motivated a North Highlands man to firebomb a nearby apartment unit.

There were plenty of witnesses that saw the suspect standing on the roof, tossing several make-shift fire bombs onto an adjacent apartment last night.

The devices that were used were simple, incendiary in nature, that is throw-able and had a base of flammable liquid, Sac Metro Fire Captain Chris Quinn said.

The suspect, McKenzie, eventually came out of his apartment, and was arrested.

McKenzie was allegedly having disagreements with some community members and wanted to act before they did, Quinn said.

No one was injured in the fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but considerable damage was done to the building.

McKenzie is facing a laundry list of charges, including seven counts of attempted murder and arson.
