SACRAMENTO -- A petition has been filed with the state Supreme Court in an effort to halt same-sex marriages in California.
Counsel for Prop 8, Andrew Pugno, filed the petition against all 58 county clerks to stop them from performing same-sex marriages.
The measure was passed by the will of the voters and is a valid part of the state constitution, Pugno said.
In a statement, he said, "We are asking California's Supreme Court to restore the rule of law and the public's confidence in the integrity of the initiative process."
The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the measure in June.
