Roseville experienced a nearly 20 percent increase in violent crime last year. FBI statistics show 293 violent crimes in 2012, up from 248 the year before, with the number of robberies nearly doubling. City officials say there's no cause for concern, as the crime rate is still well below what it was during a peak in 2007.

A police spokeswoman tells "The Bee" that the overall crime rate is at its lowest in sixteen years. There's been a reported spike in pickpocketing at some stores along Douglas Blvd. The uptick in violent crime coincides with a growing city...the population has passed 120,000.
