Last year was a pretty good one for Sacramento's top lobbying firms.

New records from the Secretary of State's Office shows more than $280 million were spent on lobbying last year -- up about a percent from the year before.

Most of that cash went to the nine big firms in Sacramento, with KP Public Affairs taking the top spot.

Their oil industry client, the Western States Petroleum Association, spent more than four and a half million dollars fighting new restrictions on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.

Smaller government groups spent the most overall, followed by healthcare interests.
