Federal data shows that California's health exchange is more than halfway toward meetings its goal of 1.3 million new insurance policies by a March 31 deadline.

A report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services shows slightly more than 728,000 selected a plan through Covered California.

A quarter of those who signed up between October and February were in an important 18 to 34 age group.

More than a million people signed up for coverage nationally in January.
