An ad denouncing the Washington Redskins name will air during tonight's broadcast of the NBA Finals.

A California Indian Tribe is airing the ad in Sacramento, San Francisco and Los Angeles in hopes of educating the public about Native American opposition to the name.

"In my opinion, the 'R Word' is as derogatory a slur as the 'N Word,'" Chairman Marshall McKay said.

McKay says the Yocha Dehe Tribe is promoting the ad -- initially produced by the National Congress of American Indians -- because members are affected by racism.

"We want to draw attention to the pain," McKay said.

McKay hopes the ad will not only educate the public about Native American opposition to the name, but stimulate a larger discussion on racism and racial slurs.
