Fishing is now banned on the American River from Nimbus Dam to the SMUD power line near Ancil Hoffmann Park due to the drought. The California Department of Fish and game learned on Friday the Office of Administrative Law approved their request from earlier this month to ban angling on the river and in other parts of California due to low water levels. Fish and Game sought the fishing ban to protect native salmon and steelhead trout from the low water flows in the streams and rivers due to the historic drought.
