UPDATE: The Stage 2 time trials are under way in Folsom. The women have completed the individual time trials with Alison Powers taking first place out of the women. The men are set to start their time trials at about 1 p.m.

Thousands of spectators are expected to show up in Folsom to watch the time trials.

Photo finish. The first stage of the Amgen Tour of California was quite the show, and a photo finish.

After 120 miles from Sacramento to the foothills and back, the world's best cyclists battled it out downtown -- elbows and all -- until British star Mark Cavendish took the yellow jersey.

"There's a great crowd out. There's great support here, and I love the Californian people, so I'd like to give them a good show and hopefully give them some more wins," he said.

He'll be back at it today during a time trial circuit in Folsom. And cheering him on, Karen, who's here from Delaware just for this.

"I followed the Tour de France twice," she said.

She says other sports aren't quite like cycling. Especially when it comes to access. Fans are right there with the riders pre- and post-race.

"For an autograph or a photo, it's just fantastic," she said.

Today's time trials kick off just after 1PM.
