A state lawmaker introduced a bill Tuesday that would give hourly workers up to three days of paid sick days a year.
Currently, most hourly or part-time workers are not eligible for sick days under their company's medical plan.
Assemblywomen Lorena Gonzales bill AB 1522 would give part-time workers who have worked at least 90 days three paid sick days a year.
Gonzales said a lot of hourly workers work in industries that affect the health of others, including food service, child care, and caring for the elderly.
Gonzalez said providing the sick days would also help reduce health care costs.
