Some Atlanta roads are still difficult to navigate following a snow and ice storm earlier this week.
Richard Carol had come to the staging area to be reunited with the pickup truck he abandoned on I-75 Tuesday night. Two National Guardsman drive him there in a Hum-Vee but even this heavy duty military vehicle can't negotiate the icy side streets and slammed into a mailbox.
This minor accident is ample evidence that many roads in snow-struck Atlanta are still too slick to travel.
Georgia's governor is apologizing to drivers who were stranded by the snowstorm, and to parents of children who had to sleep at their school or on school buses. Gov. Nathan Deal says state officials, "did not make preparations early enough',' and he says the buck stops with him.
Thursday police and the National Guard have been helping people retrieve their abandoned cars.
