"Band of Brothers" hero William "Wild Bill" Guarnere is dead at the age of 90. His family says the South Philadelphia native died Saturday night. 

Guarnere was a non-commissioned officer during World War II. He served with the famed Easy Company from the 101st Airborne Division which was portrayed in the HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers."  

Guarnere lost a leg during the Battle of the Bulge while trying to help a wounded soldier.  

He earned several combat decorations including the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Guarnere's character was played by actor Frank John Hughes in the HBO series.
