There is a proposal to keep the Bay Lights project shining through 2026.

Organizers of the world's largest light sculpture on the western span of the Bay Bridge are planning to raise $12 million to relight the 25,000 LED lights from 2016 to 2026.

Caltrans says the lights must be removed at the end of the original two-year run in March of 2015, so crews can paint the bridge for routine maintenance.

The sculpture will go dark for 10 minutes tonight as a reminder of the loss there would be if the lights went out.
