Enrollment numbers are up for Covered California and the program could hit it's six month goal.

On a conference call this morning, Executive Director Peter Lee says that over 625,000 have used Covered California to sign up for a health plan.

"We're very optimistic that given the strength of enrollment, it looks like we'll far exceed the projections of what might enroll in the first six months period," Lee said.

The goal was 500,000 to 700,000 enrolled by March 31, and another 584,000 applicants were determined to be eligible for Medi-cal.

Some more good news for the program is that 21% of those enrolled are the younger generation as their enrollment is need to help fund the program.  Lee says that within a few years they hope roughly 36% of those enrolled are between that age of 18 and 34.
