A State Senator says rebates are the answer to getting more electric vehicles on California roads.

The goal of  the "Charge Ahead California" bill is to put 1 million electric cars, trucks and buses on the state's roads within the next 10 years.

Michelle Kinman, with bill co-sponsor Environment California, says it would expand current rebate programs for electric vehicles.

"By improving access to credit for low-income community members, as well as looking to do some pilot programs to do some car sharing and putting charging infrastructure into multi-family apartment units," Kinman said.

State Senator Kevin de Leon introduced the bill on Friday.

He says SB 535 is geared toward improving air quality and ensures the benefits of electric transportation and clean air reach low-income communities.
