A bill making it easier to fire abusive educators is on its way to Governor Brown's desk, two days after a judge found the state's teacher tenure laws were unconstitutional.

The legislation, authored by Democratic Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan of Alamo, would create a separate firing process for teachers accused of abusing students or for certain drug crimes.

It would also accelerate appeals for other types of dismissals.

On Tuesday, a judge in Los Angeles County ruled that state laws governing teacher firing and hiring are too complex and time consuming.
