One person was killed and another injured in a shooting in South Sacramento this afternoon, officials said. 

The shooting took place on the 4800 block at 48th Street about 12:30 this afternoon, according to deputies.

When deputies arrived they found two men in their 20s who had been shot. One man, whose identity has not yet been released was pronounced dead at the scene, and another was injured with a gunshot wound to the leg. The second man's wounds are considered non-life threatening. 

Witnesses reported seeing two young men riding around on a girl's mountain bike carrying what appeared to be large black hunting rifles.

A police helicopter searched for the suspects, while officers checked yards and houses in the area. The suspects have been described as two Hispanic males.

Detectives have several people detained for questioning, but it is unknown at this time if they are suspects in the crime. 

A motive for the shooting is not yet known at this time.
