Searchers say a pilot is missing after his plane went into the water in the Bay Area yesterday afternoon.

Officials say this happened when two planes collided in mid-air above San Pablo Bay.  According the Federal Aviation Administration, one plane was a single-engine Cessna and the other a single-engine Hawker Sea Fury.

"The Cessna didn't fare too well and corkscrewed into the water," said Eric Johnson, who lives nearby.

The Amador County Sheriff says the husband and wife in the other plane weren't hurt and managed to land at the airport in Ione about 40 minutes after the collision.  Searchers were looking in the waters for the pilot of a Cessna, and debris was spotted later near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.
