While law enforcement authorities continue their search for Fleming, Cal Fire employees are taking precautions because their former battalion chief still has keys to fire gates, trails and Cal Fire facilities across the state.
Extra security precautions are being taken at the training academy in Ione, where the former Chief used to teach, but spokesman Daniel Berlant says locks won't be changed statewide.
"Because we use a standard key for all of our facilities we can't just change the locks immediately, and it's not going to be our number one way of providing that extra security," he cautioned, but he says Cal Fire authorities are taking action.
"We're making sure our employees are on high alert and that they know the number to call in case there's any information or any sightings they have," he reassured.
Fleming has been on the run for over a week.
