California Drought So Intense Even Trees Can't Cope

The drought in California is so intense that even trees can't cope anymore.

Sacramento is called the "City of Trees" for good reason, but a lack of rain and state imposed watering restrictions could be taking a toll on the urban forests around the region.

For example, the UC Davis tree expert tells the Sacramento Bee that just last year a little more than 200 trees died because of stress from the drought.

In Sacramento, city forestry officials reportedly say the problem isn't as severe, but signs of drought-related stresses, which can ultimately kill a tree, sometimes aren't seen for years.

The solution is reportedly deep watering three or four times a month, but water restrictions make that difficult.
