A new list of the nation's most illiterate cities has four California cities ranked in the top 10. The list, compiled by Central Connecticut State University, was compiled based on six categories: bookstores, residents’ educational attainment, newspaper circulation, use of online resources, the library system, and periodical publishing resources. Fresno came in number eight on the list. Anaheim was number six, Stockton was number three, and Bakersfield topped the list.
