A report card on California shows our kids are getting short-changed.
The child advocacy group Children Now says the declining status of our children's health, education, and welfare are big threats to the future of California. Spokeswoman Jessica Mindnich points to California's low income or poor kids,
"Middle class, middle-upper class kids have a lot of supports and services that we outline in here like after school programs, enriching summer programs,"
but she says half the children in the state are missing out. California scores highest for availabilty of health insurance (a B+), but scores low (a D-) when it comes to education.
This report card comes at the same time as a measure to start kids in school a year earlier.
