California voters are apparently increasingly becoming independents.  Of the 17.7 million registered voters in the Golden State, 21% have no political party affiliation.  The Secretary of State's office finds that the number of unaffiliated voters has risen by 1% from four years ago.

"Also the number of people who are registering with a political party have consistently gone down," said spokeswoman Shannan Velayas.

She continued to say that Democrats now make up 43.5% of California voters, down a percent; and Republicans make up 28.5%, down more than two percent.
