Caltrans says it will spend big money to speed up the demolition of the old Bay Bridge.
Bridge officials announced in January that the dismantling of the old eastern span was six months behind schedule.
Caltrans now says it will speed up the process but the deal it struck with contractors to play catch-up will cost 12-point-seven-million dollars.
SFGate says bridge officials hope that investing the extra millions will prevent future delays like work stoppages and bird-nesting seasons. The demolition is scheduled to be complete in 2018.
