As if getting around the Fix 50 project isn't enough, there's another traffic wrinkle to think about now.

While work gets rolling on Phase 2 of westbound Fix 50 in Sacramento, Caltrans is squeezing in another project on I-5 in downtown.

Caltrans' Dennis Keaton says crews will be shutting down two lanes of I-5 downtown just beyond the end of the Fix 50 construction zone starting at 8 p.m. Friday.

"Having that so close to the project area, again, we're still anticipating some traffic but it remains to be seen how that's gonna all work out," Keaton said.

This second project is expected to only require a 55 hour closure of the two I-5 lanes, so with any luck, the freeway will be open come the Monday morning rush hour.
