A woman was attacked in her home by a man released from jail just hours earlier.

Hours after his release from the Stanislaus County Men's Jail, Aaron Modisett-Hollie is alleged to have broken through a window to attack a Ceres woman Tuesday morning.

The woman took action, brandishing a shard of broken glass. She stabbed Modisett-Hollie a number of times. He fled and was captured some time later in a nearby field.

But when neighbors found out Modisett-Hollie is facing charges for a similar incident, and he was released just a few hours earlier, they became enraged.

Sabika Shahid is one of them and this is what she told News10.

"If he's done it before, why would you let him out, and you know, do it again," she said.

Stanislaus County officials are blaming prison realignment for the overcrowding problem that resulted in Modisett-Hollie being released. He's back in jail, facing fresh charges of assault.
