A new food law for the New Year is leaving some people with a bad taste in their mouth.

Chefs are annoyed over the California Retail Food Code update that went into effect this month, but bartenders are also complaining about the requirement they wear disposable gloves when touching "ready-to-eat" foods like fruits and vegetables.

Sushi chefs seem to be the most vocal about the new restrictions when handling prepared foods.

They claim the glove just get in the way of making quality dishes.

However, the state is expected to go easy on enforcement for at least a year.
