Children's Home Target of Lawsuit After Counselor Convicted of Sex With Minor

Sacramento's Children's Receiving Home has been hit with a lawsuit, after a counselor was convicted of sex with a minor.

This civil suit stems from the case of Theresa Gooch, a former counselor who was sentenced in November to a year in jail on sex and drug charges. It alleges the home failed to act when alerted by the then 16-year-old victim's sister.

"They obviously were lax in their 'in house investigation' where they don't even interview the victim," Attorney Joe George said.

George says Gooch wasn't fired and the sister had to go to police herself.

The suit seeks unspecified damages and the Recieving Home could not immediately be reached for comment. It's a privately run nonprofit on Auburn Boulevard.
