The California Highway Patrol began a zero tolerance enforcement weekend Friday night along Highway 50 between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe.

The highway has seen more than 2,000 crashes resulting from various speed violations, which officers call aggressive driving.

This weekend was chosen because of expected additional traffic related to early St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

The CHP will have dozens of additional patrol cars on Highway 50 through Sunday night, hoping to catch violators and keep the roadway safe.
