The city of Sacramento has issued the first in a series of permits for the Sacramento Kings to build a new arena downtown.
The permits will allow pre-demolition work to begin on the eastern half of Downtown Plaza.
Done in two phases, the first part will include prep work and removal of recyclable materials.
The second phase will include the actual destruction of the buildings from the eastern side without disturbing the Plaza's business on the western half.
Construction of the arena is scheduled to start in November.
