The City of Roseville says even though the state has approved $500 fines for water wasters, it's not eager to go there.
Roseville took the governor's 20 percent cut in water use seriously and says fines will be a last resort.
"We really hope it would never escalate to that point. We issue several notices, we offer a water-wise house call or business audit with our notices, so that if individuals do not know how to correct their problem then we will offer our services," Water Conservation Administrator Lisa Brown said.
Brown says the city will issue fines beginning at $100, but prefers to fix the problem and save water rather than fine water users.
