The actual work on the Fix 50 project in downtown Sacramento is off to a good start.
Caltrans says the old concrete demolition is going according to plan and should be completed today.
Spokesman Dennis Keaton says the next step of putting in the new concrete surface will be the most critical.
"I think the biggest factor is going to be the curing time once they're able to do the pours," he said.
Keaton says hotter weather will make it a little trickier.
"If it's real hot summer days, they may have to wait until night before they do the pours," he said.
And if they don't get it right they'd likely have to do the work over.
Keaton says once that work is complete, then can get a sense of whether the project is ahead of schedule.
