Craig Ferguson is following David Letterman out of the late night landscape.

Ferguson told his audience during Monday's taping of "The Late Late Show" on CBS that after ten years as host he would step down in December.

In a follow up statement, the Scottish-born  comedian took a page from Gwyneth Paltrow's recent breakup announcement with Chris Martin in saying, "CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are 'consciously uncoupling."

Ferguson's exit comes just weeks after Letterman announced he would be retiring from his "Late Show" next year.

Stephen Colbert has been tapped as Letterman's replacement.

No word yet on who might replace Ferguson.
