CSU System Cutting Back Enrollment Projections

CSU System Cutting Back Enrollment Projections

We'll see slow growth this year. The CSU system is cutting enrollment projections in half.

The university says state funding that fell short of expectations will take planned growth from an extra 20,000 students this fall to 10,000.

Campuses had lobbied for a budget increase of $237 million, but the final deal gave them $142 million the amount proposed by Governor Jerry Brown.

CSU Spokesman Mike Uhlenkamp says that'll mean a balancing act.

"We need to obviously enroll the students, but we also need to provide the services, meaningful services, courses to get students through in a timely manner," Uhlenkamp said.

The system received 761,000 applications for the next term.

Sac State will see a 1 percent increase in the student body to 29,000. They'll hire 45 new faculty members.
