CVS and their parent company Caremark Corporation could be subject to fines of up to $29 million after it was discovered that thousands of prescription drugs are missing from several California pharmacies.

FOX 40 reports that the painkillers disappeared from stores in Modesto, Fairfield, Dixon and Turlock.

CVS is now facing nearly 3,000 violations of the Controlled Substances Act for the discrepancies between their records and the inventory.
