The City of Davis will be putting holiday volunteers on the streets to welcome shoppers and visitors downtown.

Kellie Vitaich with Davis PD said the "community hosts" will hand out maps and guides while serving as "eyes and ears" to help prevent nuisance behaviors, including,

"Letting people know that riding their bike or skateboarding on the sidewalk is not something we want to happen.  Helping the businesses if they have any aggressive panhandlers..."

The department is seeking volunteers for three to six hour shifts during both weekends and week days.

The hosts will also be called back to help during large events like Picnic Day.
