Aquelin Talamantes of Davis has been found guilty of first-degree murder for the drowning of her young daughter Tatiana Garcia in September, News10 reports.

The case of a Davis woman accused of killing her daughter is now in the hands of a Yolo County jury.

After hearing two weeks of testimony, jurors will reportedly now decide between a first and second-degree murder charge in the trial of Aquelin Talamantes.

The 29-year-old is accused of drowning her 4-year-old daughter before driving the child's dead body to Sacramento in her trunk.

The Woodland Democrat reports the defense maintains Talamantes was "not in her right mind" at the time of the killing and should be found guilty in the second-degree, but prosecutor Ryan Couzens urged jurors not to be swayed by sympathy and invoke first degree murder charges.

Talamantes, who did not testify during the trial, pleaded guilty by reason of insanity.
