Democrats Have Plan to Win Back Public's Trust

Democrats in the State Senate say there's been a loss of public trust, and they have a plan to win it back.

"There's no question that recent events are testing the public's faith on how the government does its work," Sen. Ricardo Lara said.

With two of their colleagues fighting criminal charges Democratic senators, including Ricardo Lara and Kevin de Leon, have rolled out an ethics reform package to tighten rules on gifting and fundraising.

Parties at lobbyist's homes would be banned, gift limits would drop and "we'll zero out indefensible gifts such as tickets to professional sporting events, concerts, amusement parks, golf, spa and other recreation trips," de Leon said.

Similar bills penned by Republicans were defeated in the past.
