Demonstrators Protest Gov. Brown's Use of Funds on Prison Realignment

Some people want California Governor Jerry Brown to use a budget surplus to reinvest in community programs, jobs and education.

Fermin Vasquez, of the Community Coalition, says California voters gave Brown what he wanted with Prop 30, and now it's time Brown gave the people of California what they want.

"We're calling for a sunny day fund because the people of California deserve a budget that reflects its values," Vasquez said.

At a really outside LA County Men's Central Jail Monday, protesters said the governor's proposed budget allocates too many resources to expanding the prison system.

Brown has proposed $81 million for inmate rehabilitation programs, $65 million for treatment of prisoners with mental health issues, $14 million to crack down on drug smuggling in prison and $500 million for new jail space.
